Remote sensing from aero-space media has become the most valuable tool for management and monitoring of natural resources and environment. For a sustained economic growth and balance between the development of natural resources and optimal natural environment, it is necessary that the technology is used to its maximum potential. This requires development of adequate human resource for the judicious use of the remote sensing technology in resource mapping and environmental monitoring.

NRSC offers training courses to resource scientists and technologists in various disciplines of application. At NRSC there is considerable experience of teaching, at Masters Level and also delivery of practical hands-on training using GIS & Remote Sensing software. NRSC imparts training, to render resource - scientists, to become conversant with modern and operational aspects of remote sensing.

The courses fall mainly under three categories for scientists working at implementation level:

  • 12 week regular course on “Remote Sensing Technology and Applications”
  • 4 week regular course on “Introduction to GIS and its Applications”
  • Customised courses

Special courses in the areas of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications are organised upon request by user organisations. At least 12 trainees have to be sponsored for such courses. The course content and duration are fixed based on the user requirements. Depending on the computer usage and the course duration the fee is worked out. Some of the customized courses carried out by NRSC are

  • Image Processing of documents and pictures
  • RS and GIS in Watershed Management
  • Operation and maintenance of RS satellite data acquisition systems
  • Computer based spatial analysis for subsidiary Intelligence Bureau
  • Map Updation course for BSF and ITBP officials
  • Earth Station Maintenance course
  • World Bank aided ‘GIS and DSS’ for State Pollution Control Boards
  • DFID, U.K. funded ‘GIS for Municipal Applications’ for Town Planners and Municipal Commissioners
