India's ongoing population explosion has placed great strain on the country's environment. This along with a move toward urbanization and industrialization, has placed significant pressure on India's infrastructure and its natural resources. Deforestation, soil erosion, water pollution and land degradation continue to worsen and are hindering economic development in rural India. Remote sensing and GIS technologies has been extensively used by NRSC in addressing these issues. Some of the studies carried out by NRSC include
Environmental Impact Assessment
Ecological monitoring of thermal power plants
Environmental management plans
Route/pipeline alignment
Oil slick studies
Ash pond breach
Environmental Auditing
Shifting cultivation mapping
Geosphere & Biosphere studies
Establishment of hydropower sites
