Village Resource Centre

The Village Resource Centre (VRC) programme is a single window delivery mechanism initiated by the Dept. of Space in collaboration with NGO partners/expert institutions to provide space enabled services to the rural community for improving their socioeconomic conditions and quality of life. The scope of the services include tele-medical consultation, tele-education, agriculture advisory, disaster warning, alternate livelihood training, etc by connecting VRCs to expert centres in each discipline through a satellite based VSAT network. Satellite remote sensing derived database on land and water resources registered to village cadastral maps is being provided by ISRO/DOS for using as basis for land and water management advisory.

NRSC has been identified as the regional node for setting up VRCs and for coordinating VRC Programmes in association with the identified NGOs / expert centres in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Out of about 400 VRCs operational at present in the country, 75 VRCs (43 in Orissa and 32 in AP including expert institutions, NGO partners and the Regional Node) are serving the rural population in about 1500 villages in AP & Orissa states.
