Training & Education Division offers training courses for the user community from various Government/Private/Autonomous/NGOs Organizations/Academic Institutions in the domain of Geospatial Technologies and its Applications.
Remote Sensing from Aerospace platform has become a valuable tool for acquiring, monitoring, management of natural resources and the environment. Geospatial Technologies play an important role towards achieving the national objectives of food, water, energy, shelter and infrastructure security, sustainable development and disaster risk reduction.
Towards this, every year NRSC organizes Regular, Thematic/Special and customized courses to impart training to users working in various domains to enhance their skill and assimilate geospatial data for scientific and developmental activities. Further Bhuvan overview training programmes are also organized for users to increase awareness towards effective utilization of Bhuvan GeoPortal Products & Services.

General Instructions
I. Regular Courses
Trained personnel at various levels of knowledge and skills are required to understand, analyze the spatial data for utilisation/application in their area of specialisation. Training & Education Division of NRSC offers regular courses like2-week “Microwave Remote Sensing Applications” and 12-Week course on “Geospatial Technologies and Applications”.
a) 2-Week " Microwave Remote Sensing Applications" BROCHURE
Towards capacity building and effective utilization of Microwave data by user community, NRSC organises a 2week regular course on “Microwave Remote Sensing Applications”. The training covers the fundamentals aspects of Microwave Remote sensing, data processing and applications with Hands-on practicals.
b) 12 Week training on "Geospatial Technologies and Applications" BROCHURE
The 12-week training course on “Geospatial Technologies and Applications” addresses core Remote Sensing, Digital Image Processing and GIS Technologies with necessary practical and applications in Agriculture, Soils, Forestry, Land use/cover, Geology, Geomorphology, Urban studies, Water resources, Watershed & Rural Development, Ocean, Atmospheric sciences and Disaster Management followed by 3 weeks Hands-on project .
II. Theme Oriented / Special Courses
To promote Remote Sensing Applications among user communities for effective utilization at their end, one & two week theme-oriented/Special courses are organized like Open Source GIS , Climate Studies, Land Resources Management, Hyperspectral Remote Sensing and Large scale mapping for urban planning.
a) 2-week Special course on “Open Source GIS ” BROCHURE
A 2-week training course on “Open Source GIS” is organized for the benefit of beginners in this field. Concepts of GIS, Spatial Data Models, Data Capturing, Basic Operations on Spatial Analysis, Mobile GIS, WebGIS, Bhuvan Web Portal, Hands-on using Open Source GIS Tools are dealt with during the training.
b) 1-week Thematic course on “Geospatial Technologies for Climate Studies” BROCHURE
Geospatial approach harnessing existing global datasets, along with new generation remote sensing products, offers a unique basis to examine the Earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere in areas that are affected by climate change or affect climate. The geospatial technology tools enable retrieving/deriving spatio-temporal information on land-atmosphere-ocean processes. The training provides basic concepts to enhance knowledge on climate change and geospatial tools incorporated into climate change.
c) 2-week Thematic course on “Remote Sensing Applications for Land Resources Management” BROCHURE
Geospatial technologies are widely used in land resource management for better utilization of resources. The 2 week course covers the Remote Sensing Applications towards utilisation of Satellite data for planning, mapping, monitoring Land resources addressing agriculture, soils/land degradation, water resources, Land use planning, rural development and Land resource management aspects with necessary practical sessions .
d) 1-week Thematic course on “Hyperspectral Remote Sensing” BROCHURE
The Hyperspectral Remote Sensing in India is gaining popularity as it could be used in various resource applications such as mineral mapping, vegetation classification, water quality assessment, snow related studies. To provide insights into this emerging technology, one week course on Hyperspectral remote Sensing will be organized that will cover principles of Hyperspectral Remote Sensing, Field spectro-radiometers, Imaging systems, airborne and space borne sensors, Image analysis, feature extraction techniques and few applications will be covered in the course.
e) 1-week course Thematic course on “Large Scale Mapping for City/Urban Planning and Panchayat Raj Applications” BROCHURE
This course is aimed at decision makers/ middle level officials/planars to have overall knowledge regarding the availability of Large Scale data products, pre-processing of the data, generation of ortho, DEM, and preparation of large scale maps with an emphasis on City/Urban Planning and Panchayat Raj Applications beside addressing AMRUT project.
III. Bhuvan BROCHURE
ISRO’s Bhuvan is Indias National Web Geoportal providing versatile visualization of topography, thematic and disaster services for a rich web experience. The training comprises of an overview of all the functionalities on Bhuvan like Visualization, Data download, Map services, crowd sourcing, API, Applications carried out for Ministries & State Government departments and Disaster Support Services on Bhuvan etc., including Hands-on exposure on Bhuvan portal.
