A Floating Loktak lake, located in Manipur, India, is the largest
freshwater lake in Northeast India. It is renowned
for its unique floating islands called phumdis,
Paradise formed by vegetation, soil and organic matter.
The lake is also significant for the indigenous
people who depend on it for their livelihoods and
cultural practices. The Cartosat-1 satellite image
depicts the floating islands in the lake.
