Bhuvan–BHUGRAM: Geospatial Platform for Rural Asset Management and Governance

Bhuvan–BHUGRAM is a GIS-enabled platform developed by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, to support geospatially enabled planning, management, and monitoring of rural assets and development activities. Launched along with the VB-G RAM G application, BHUGRAM integrates satellite-derived information, thematic geospatial layers, and administrative information to provide a comprehensive spatial view of rural areas.

The application enables users to visualise and explore field photographs and information, rural assets, land cover and natural resources, crop information, landslides, points of interest, river-bank erosion, settlements, and hydrological boundaries such as basins, sub-basins, and watersheds. These layers can be explored through an interactive map interface with tools for navigation, measurement, drawing, proximity analysis, catchment analysis, and addition of user layers.

BHUGRAM provides spatial context for rural development activities by bringing together diverse geospatial information at different administrative and thematic levels. It supports evidence-based assessment of rural assets and helps users understand their spatial distribution in relation to natural resources, settlements, and other geographic features.

The platform demonstrates how Earth Observation, GIS, and administrative information can be integrated to strengthen rural planning, monitoring, and decision-making, supporting government agencies, planners, and other stakeholders in implementing and evaluating rural development programmes.
