Overview

The National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, brings decades of expertise in Earth Observation, Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technologies to the training of professionals, researchers, faculty and students. NRSC offers opportunities to learn directly from scientists and engineers working with these technologies in operational and research environments. Training Planning & Coordination Division (TPCD), NRSC offers a range of training courses focused on Geospatial Technologies and Applications. The training courses, workshops, and webinars are organized focusing on capacity building and promoting satellite-based research and planning for effective decision making. Customized training programs are also conducted to build institutional capacity under national initiatives such as ISRO DMSP, Amrut 2.0 & National Water Mission aimed at officials from Central and State Government Departments. Additionally, online training programmes like ‘Bhoonidhi -ISRO’s Data hub’ and ‘Bhuvan-Indian Geoportal of ISRO’ are also conducted for data visualization and dissemination. These initiatives collectively aim to advance the effective utilization of geospatial data for operational workflows, scientific research, and application projects.

Why Geospatial Technology?
Because the Earth is changing — and better decisions need better spatial information.
Geospatial technologies, including Remote Sensing, GIS, Positioning, and Geo-web information services, have become essential for implementing advanced spatial information systems. These tools facilitate the development of methodologies for capturing, retrieving, analyzing, and interpreting both spatial and non-spatial data. Globally, geospatial technologies play a crucial role in empowering decision-makers to harness spatial data effectively for natural resource management, environment monitoring, disaster mitigation, governance, and sustainable development.

Key Application Domains:
🌾 Agriculture — Monitor crops. Assess productivity. Support precision agriculture.
💧 Water Resources — Map water resources. Monitor watersheds. Support planning.
🌳 Environment & Ecology — Observe ecosystems, land cover and environmental change.
🌋 Disaster Management — Support preparedness, response and recovery using near-real-time Earth observation.
🏙 Urban & Infrastructure — Understand how cities grow and infrastructure changes.
⛰ Geosciences — Use satellite observations to investigate terrain, minerals, geology and natural resources.

Courses Offered: Thematic and customized courses in classroom and webinar mode are organized to equip professionals/researchers with requisite know-hows for effective utilization in diverse applications. We impart capacity building training to around 500 officials / academic scholars in about 20 training programmes per year. Refer the training calendar for more details.

User Community: Professionals from various Government / Industry / Autonomous / NGOs; Faculty and Researchers from Academic Institutions working in the domain of Geospatial Technologies and its applications can apply for training.
