Overview

The NRSC (National Remote Sensing Centre) Outreach Facility serves as a crucial platform for disseminating knowledge, expertise, and resources related to remote sensing technology and its applications. Here's an overview:

  1. Mission: The primary mission of the NRSC Outreach Facility is to bridge the gap between Space and remote sensing technology and end-users by providing Lectures, Videos, Exhibits and VGS.
  2. Capacity Building: Through its outreach initiatives, the NRSC aims to build the capacity of individuals and organizations to effectively harness remote sensing technology for decision-making, policy formulation, and sustainable development initiatives.
  3. Collaboration and Networking: The NRSC Outreach Facility collaborates with national partners, including private space agencies, research institutions, colleges, schools and NGOs, to promote knowledge sharing, collaborative research, and the exchange of best practices in remote sensing applications.
  4. Public Awareness: In addition to professional training and capacity building activities, the facility also engages in public outreach and awareness campaigns to promote the understanding and appreciation of Space and remote sensing technology among the general public. This may include organizing exhibitions, public lectures, and educational programs targeting schools and community groups.
  5. Guided Educational & Industrial Visits: Facilitates pre-arranged educational and industrial visits for students and faculty from schools and colleges across India, offering first-hand exposure to ISRO's Earth Observation capabilities, satellite technologies, and their real-world applications. These visits provide participants with an understanding of how space technology addresses societal challenges and contributes to national development.
  6. Space Technology Exhibition Centre: Features scaled models of major ISRO satellites and launch vehicles, including LVM3, HRLV, PSLV, and GSLV, along with interactive displays illustrating the diverse applications of space technology. The outreach initiatives include Space on Wheels, a mobile programme that brings space science and technology to students and the public; Science on Sphere (SoS), an immersive visualization platform that uses satellite-derived data to illustrate Earth systems, environmental processes and geophysical phenomena; a Ground Segment demonstrating satellite data reception, processing, and downloading; and thematic exhibits highlighting the use of satellite data for a wide range of societal and developmental applications.
  7. Scientist-Student Interactive Sessions: Facilitates interactive Q&A sessions with scientists, enabling visiting students to gain first-hand insights into space science and Earth observation, explore career opportunities, and understand the applications of remote sensing and satellite image processing in addressing real-world challenges.
  8. Special Event Celebrations & Public Awareness: Organizes themed outreach programmes to commemorate national and international observances, including National Space Day, National Science Day, YUVIKA, World Space week and Remote Sensing fortnight.

Overall, the NRSC Outreach Facility plays a vital role in promoting the widespread adoption and effective utilization of Space and Remote sensing technology for addressing societal challenges and fostering sustainable development.
