About RESPOND

ISRO’s initiative to promote space research by funding academic institutions for R&D in space science, technology, and applications.

Objective

Build strong academia-ISRO collaborations and develop research output relevant to future missions and challenges.

Programme Highlights

RESPOND supports projects taken up by Universities/Academic Institutions in India in areas aligned with ISRO’s mission. It provides financial, technical support and fellowship opportunities for meaningful research.

How RESPOND Works

01Proposal Submission
02Evaluation
03Approval
04Funding & Execution

ISRO started the RESPOND (Sponsored Research) programme in the 1970s to encourage academic institutions to contribute to space research. Under RESPOND, projects are taken up by Indian Universities/Academic Institutions in areas relevant to the Space Programme.

This flagship programme offers financial and technical support to academia to build capacity in Space Science, Technology, and Applications. A detailed list of R&D areas is published annually to help institutes submit proposals aligned with ISRO’s goals.

The programme is mutually beneficial, leveraging academia's talent to supplement ISRO's missions, while also strengthening infrastructure and research capabilities across institutions.
