Cyclone 'NIVAR' Affected Areas in part of ANDHRA PRADESH State

Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan was a very powerful tropical cyclone that caused widespread damage over Eastern part of India in May 2020. Kolkata and nearby areas have witnessed winds of over 100 kmph and pounding rain in the region. The Cyclone made landfall on 20th May afternoon in West Bengal towards Sunderbans, a marshy region famous for its mangroves. Coastal areas West Bengal mainly; Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah, East Midnapur, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas and coastal areas of Odisha State were affected by the cyclone.

National Remote Sensing Centre, ISRO continuously monitored the cyclone and mapped the cyclone induced flooding in West Bengal and Odisha States using multi mission satellite data obtained from Indian Remote Sensing Satellites and other space missions. The derived products were disseminated to the concerned Central and State Disaster Management Organisation in near real-time and also hosted in Bhuvan and NDEM geo-portals.
