Salt Pan Atlas of India

The Salt Pan Atlas of India has been prepared by the Regional Remote Sensing Centre-South of NRSC, ISRO, in collaboration with the Salt Commissioner’s Organisation (SCO), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Tata Chemicals Limited. Salt pans of India are featured in this Atlas through very high-resolution images from ISRO’s Earth Observation Satellites (including Cartosat-3 and Cartosat-2 series), provided by BHOONIDHI and BHUVAN web portals. The Atlas offers valuable insights into India’s diverse salt resources, covering coastal salt ponds of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Odisha, as well as inland salt lakes of Rajasthan and sub-soil brine ponds in the Little Rann of Kachchh, Gujarat. The bilingual Atlas (Hindi and English) serves as a key reference for policymakers, researchers, industry stakeholders, and everyone associated with the salt sector.
